CAK Construction - Airport team working to minimize Customer disruptions

Wait for it… wait for it… now! Orange construction barrels and fencing are popping up everywhere in Northeast Ohio as we embark on CONSTRUCTION 2015. Yes, it is an annual rite of passage in this part of the country; and you can count on it just like you can count on spring daffodils and birdsong (except those things are pretty nice).

We have a bit of a love-hate relationship with construction at Akron-Canton Airport. We love making things better for our customers and we are starting some pretty awesome improvements this year.

We’ll be enhancing our upper campus parking lots and improving and expanding our ticket wing.

We kinda hate tearing everything up, though, to make way for the improvements. Construction zones can cause confusion, way-finding headaches and raise anxiety…and we are against anything that causes extra stress for our customers.

So, how are we going to handle it? First, our President and CEO Rick McQueen convened a strategic team of CAK leaders to identify potential “pinch points” as he likes to call ‘em. He tasked each of us with addressing various issues from safety, timing, budget, stakeholder needs, to very importantly, communication.

Our marketing/ communications team is on overdrive prepping for our upcoming construction projects. We will be sending regular updates using our CAK Connections newsletter, social media, our website, and printing maps and instructions for customers that will be available at our information center (staffed from 9 a.m. til midnight). Every one of our employees will be on the ready to assist as well.

One thing is for sure, we want to make the CAK experience as relaxing as possible even during CAKstruction. We are ready to tweak the plan if necessary too. We’ll watch closely to identify ways of making the process/ way-finding as easy as possible.

These may seem like little things but it is the little things that make Akron-Canton Airport a better way to go.
