MassMu Installs a Pop-up Exhibit at CAK Airport
Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) now hosts a new Massillon Museum pop-up exhibit featuring representative items from a few categories within the Museum’s broad collection: football, history, circus, and contemporary art.
One side of the display provides an overview of the history of the National Weather Bureau office at CAK and explains the aviation/meteorology connection. That display relates directly to a current MassMu exhibition: Adventures in Weather.
Located in front of Door Five, between Baggage Claims Two and Three, it informs travelers of their opportunity to visit the one-of-a-kind Massillon Museum—art and history in one place. Close to the airport in downtown Massillon, the Museum is open six days a week with free admission. Visit MassillonMuseum.org for hours, amenities, and current exhibitions.
The airport exhibit design was inspired by the Museum's new neon sign on the historic Lincoln Highway; a small replica is part of the pop-up. MassMu’s main gallery exhibition, Driving Forces: The Lincoln Highway Journey, relates to the history and nostalgia of transportation.
"The pop-up exhibit will introduce out-of-town visitors to the Massillon Museum while reminding locals to check out our ever-changing events, programs, and exhibits. The display offers a quick, fun history lesson while waiting on your bags,” says MassMu’s Curator of Art and Artifacts, Valerie Metzger, who created the pop-up.
“The Akron-Canton Airport is thrilled to provide exhibit space for the Massillon Museum to provide another piece of the history of transportation for our guests to view. We appreciate these partnerships,” says David Regula, VP, Customer Experience at Akron-Canton Airport.
The Massillon Museum is a recipient of ArtsBuild funding from ArtsinStark. This grant is made possible by the support of the Stark County community through ArtsinStark's annual Campaign for the Arts. The Massillon Museum also appreciates operating support from the Ohio Arts Council, marketing support from Visit Canton, and the support of the citizens of Massillon. The CAK exhibit is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.
