Race will take place on the actual runways at Akron-Canton Airport

GREEN, OH - On Sunday, August 6th over 1,000 runners and walkers of all ages will venture onto the runways at Akron-Canton Airport to complete the CAK 5K on the Runway.

The sixth annual CAK 5K on the Runway hosted by the Akron-Canton Airport aims to bring aviation enthusiasts, professional football fans, and families together on the flattest course in the region with all proceeds of the race being donated to Adaptive Sports Ohio and MAPS Air Museum.

“We’re looking forward to engaging with the community by providing a truly unique event on our runways with pre and post-race activities at MAPS Air Museum,” said Ren Camacho, President and CEO of the Akron-Canton Airport. “The family friendly environment is sure to inspire prospective aviation enthusiasts, professional football fans visiting the area, and those in our community looking for a new experience.”

Along the course, participants will pass vintage military aircraft with unique views of the airfield environment and have an opportunity to sprint through the Endzone Dash near the finish. After the race is complete, participants are welcome to enjoy MAPS Air Museum at no cost, a group yoga session, and for those 21 years of age and over a post-race beer garden featuring a Jogger Lager courtesy of Royal Docks Brewing Co.

Since 2016, CAK has donated over $22,500 to local nonprofits and looks to continue the tradition of giving. “We are always looking for ways to give back to the community, and this event allows us to inspire and give back in so many ways,” said Camacho. This year’s proceeds will benefit MAPS Air Museum and Adaptive Sports Ohio.

“The uniqueness of the CAK 5K on the Runway is attributed to being able to access the runways,” said Jim Chaney, Race Director. “For a runner or walker, what makes this truly unrivaled is the opportunity to be surrounded by aviation history. It is a full experience rather than just another race.”

For 2023, there will also be a virtual option to participate for those who are not able to attend in-person. All participants will receive a finisher medal whether completing the race in-person or virtually. The race medal shines bright with ties to aviation and professional football.

Upon registration, participants will be able to choose between three shirt options representing one of the teams playing in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game or a new Akron-Canton Airport colorway.
