Green, OH: April showers brought more than May flowers…and more showers… it also brought a record number of travelers to the Akron-Canton Airport (CAK). Nearly 134,000 passengers traveled to and from CAK during the month making it the airport's busiest April of all time. That number is up 5 percent compared to the same month in 2010 and beats the airport's previous best April (2006) by more than 5,000 passengers.

"Breaking another monthly passenger record is absolutely amazing," said Rick McQueen, president and CEO. "Offering the lowest average airfare in a five state region tempts new customers to give CAK a try; our award winning customer service keeps them coming back time and again. We couldn't feel more grateful to our airline partners, our extraordinary customer service providers and of course our customers themselves for helping us reach yet another important milestone."

Passenger traffic increased on nearly all airlines at the airport. AirTran Airways, a wholly owned subsidiary of Southwest Airlines, offering nonstop service to Orlando, Tampa, Ft. Myers, Atlanta, New York and Boston increased eight percent compared to April 2010. Plus, SkyWest Airlines' (in partnership with AirTran) flights to Milwaukee posted an eight percent gain. US Airways, with flights to Charlotte, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. (Reagan), increased by 12 percent. Frontier Airlines with nonstop flights to Denver and United Express, flying to Chicago O' Hare, were up four percent and one percent respectively.
