GREEN, Ohio – The Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) Wildness Center Stream Mitigation Project has been named as an Engineering Excellence Awards Competition Honor Award recipient by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Ohio.

CAK accepted the award in partnership with Environmental Design Group, an Akron-Based planning, design and civil engineering firm.

“We are proud to have been able to work with Environmental Design Group to help mitigate impacts to the environment,” said Kevin Ripple, Facility Manager of the Akron-Canton Airport. “The award reflects on the uniqueness of an airport project like this, and the hard work behind engineering for sustainability.”

Environmental Design Group provided environmental, surveying, design, bidding, and construction services for permitting and mitigation of a 200 foot existing drainage channel that would be affected by a plan for parking improvements.

The project resulted in expanded parking with improved convenience for travelers, while also strengthening the natural wetlands around the airport.

The Engineering Excellence Awards Competition is an annual program that brings well-deserved public recognition to Ohio's engineering industry by spotlighting engineering projects that demonstrate a high degree of uniqueness, ingenuity and value.
