Akron-Canton AIrport Welcomes 7.7 Percent More Passengers in June

Green, OH: Things were hopping at Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) in June. Just 27 passengers short of an all-time record June (set in 2005), the airport enjoyed a substantial increase in travel during the month. More than 134,000 travelers used CAK in June 2008; a 7.7 percent increase compared to the same month last year. Plus, the passenger figure represents our fifth best month in airport history.

"We are so pleased that customers continue to choose CAK," said Kristie VanAuken, airport marketing and communications director. "Passengers love the low fares offered by carriers like AirTran Airways and Frontier Airlines as well as shorter walks to their gate, sparkling clean facilities and amenities like massage chairs and parking right outside the terminal. We believe it is the little things that make Akron-Canton Airport a better way to go.® "

Nearly every carrier at CAK posted an increase in passengers compared to last year. More than 61,000 passengers flew AirTran Airways during the month, a 10.3% increase. US Airways (25.5%), Northwest (5.7%), Frontier (1.7%) and United Express (8.6%) also contributed significantly to the strong boarding figures. Total airport passengers are up 1.76 percent compared to the first half of 2007.
