Akron-Canton Airport Reports Record Breaking Month and Additional AirTrn Airways Flight

AKRON-CANTON AIRPORT REPORTS RECORD BREAKING MONTH AND

ADDITIONAL AIRTRAN AIRWAYS FLIGHT





Green, OH: For the first time in airport history, more than 90 thousand travelers flew



through Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) in a single month. A total 95,324 passengers used the airport in March exceeding the 85,584 who used the airport in August 2002, our previous best month on record. The March total accounts for a 34.19 percent increase over 2002 when a total 71,036 passengers used Akron-Canton. For the first three months of the year, 237,732 fliers have passed through the terminal, a 27.9 percent increase over 2001. Provided current passenger levels continue, the airport will host more than 1 million passengers in the year 2003.



 



AirTran Airways, Delta Connection, United Express and Northwest Airlink each



experienced increased boardings compared to March last year. .We are delighted to welcome so many new travelers to Akron-Canton,. said airport director Fred Krum. .Good air fares, shorter lines, and less hassle make us a better way to go..



 



Also, AirTran Airways, which recently launched nonstop New York service from CAK is



adding a fifth flight to its Atlanta hub on June 14, bringing their total number of daily departures to eight. .We are pleased to enhance our service to the Akron-Canton area,. remarked John P. Kirby, director, network planning at AirTran Airways. .The business and leisure community have clearly embraced our high quality, high value service." The new Atlanta flight will depart Akron-Canton at 6:10 p.m. and arrive in Atlanta at 7:55 p.m.

The airport is currently in the midst of a $50 million, five-year expansion project including longer runways, an expanded terminal (including a new second-level loading concourse and a food court with national brands) and a new interchange south of the airport at Shuffel Road.
