Will Security be heightened at Ohio Airports?

Posted on 07/03/2007

I hate terrorism. I mean, what are these guys (mostly guys) thinking? It just makes no sense to me. I value human life, particularly innocent folks who just happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. I guess I’ll never understand suicide bombings and random acts of violence. I have two kids and I teach them that hitting, kicking and shouting are not good ways to solve problems. I hope moms in other parts of the world do the same so our children find an alternative to violence to resolve conflict.

Well anyway, because of the recent rash of attacks on airports in the UK, I’ve had lots of reporters from around Ohio call and ask about heightened security at CAK. The current threat level is still orange, meaning that the same high level of protection we’ve come to expect at our nation’s airports is still in effect.

If you are traveling this busy holiday season, please visit this TSA reminder about what is allowed through gate-screening. I’d hate for you to loose your Chanel lipstick or perfume all in the name of homeland security. Also, get here 90 minutes prior to your departure just for that extra cushion. Believe me you will feel more relaxed and ready for your trip if you build in a little bit of extra time. Most likely, you’ll be able to grab a bite to eat, have a quick massage and/or fire up your computer while you wait in our comfy concourse.

Most of all, we hope you have a safe and happy 4th of July holiday, wherever your travels may take you.

Happy New Years to my neighbors out at Akron/Canton. Continue the tremendous work you do at your airport. Most airports are jealous of how well you have grown in just a 10 year span, and will continue growing in the future. I have flown it 10+ times in the last couple years, and will continue using it.

Right now my coalition of Airport Supporters are trying to help out the struggling Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport. They have done a successful job with flights to Orlando aboard Allegiant Air (ALGT-Nasdaq), but they have not done much since then.

YNG needs to look at how well CAK has done over the years and perhaps take some tips from you guys. You run a very successful operation and should be commended for IT! You earn my award for the best airport in Ohio and the best operation of any government funded operation in the region.

GOOD LUCK IN 2007!
