Two Big Tanks
Posted on 05/04/2006
A lot of people ask me what the construction on the Southeast end of the Airport is all about, especially now that the two large round objects have appeared. Well, the two large round objects are two 750,000-gallon storage tanks for used and recaptured deicer fluid. These tanks are part of an overall project we are constructing to capture and treat the deicer fluid used to deice aircraft during the wintertime. Next winter aircraft will taxi to one of 4 pads where they will be deiced. The fluid will then flow to the tanks where it will be stored. Then the deicer fluid will proceed to the treatment facility (one of only two in the country) where microbes are introduced and the deicer fluid is “eaten” leaving only clean water to exit from the facility. The treatment facility portion of this project has just gotten underway and will be completed in the late fall for use this winter. This project keeps the Airport ahead of the game to meet the demands of future growth. Cost of the project is $10 million.
Speaking of growth, we are running about 7% ahead of last year in the number of passengers flying through our Airport. We actually weren’t projecting it to be this high! Thanks to your support we’ve started off 2006 with a bang.
