State of Ohio offers CO incentive to build Clevela
Posted on 06/28/2007
Have you heard about the $16 million incentive package the State of Ohio is offering to Continental Airlines? If you haven’t the money would go to build infrastructure at Cleveland Hopkins Airport and provide job training resources for the airline. In return, Continental would add 700 jobs in the Cleveland+ region and add more connecting flights. For the full story here's the cleveland.com link.
Now most of you know that CAK is just 50 miles south of Cleveland Hopkins Airport in Northeastern Ohio. You may be wondering how we feel about such an aggressive support package for our neighboring airport. Well here it is… we are absolutely in favor of it. Cleveland+ is competing with Houston and Newark for the investment and make no mistake about it, air service is economic development. States and communities should invest in air service infrastructure. I would love to see Cleveland land this project. Sure it means stiffer competition but we’ve never shied away from that.
So thanks Ohio for putting some money towards a very important project. This would be a huge win for our region. I’ve got my fingers crossed…(and no… not behind my back :).

Happy New Years to my neighbors out at Akron/Canton. Continue the tremendous work you do at your airport. Most airports are jealous of how well you have grown in just a 10 year span, and will continue growing in the future. I have flown it 10+ times in the last couple years, and will continue using it.
Right now my coalition of Airport Supporters are trying to help out the struggling Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport. They have done a successful job with flights to Orlando aboard Allegiant Air (ALGT-Nasdaq), but they have not done much since then.
YNG needs to look at how well CAK has done over the years and perhaps take some tips from you guys. You run a very successful operation and should be commended for IT! You earn my award for the best airport in Ohio and the best operation of any government funded operation in the region.
GOOD LUCK IN 2007!
