Safer Travel for Children!
Right off the national news as reported in The Canton Repository, the Federal Aviation Administration has approved a new harness-type device for keeping kids safe when flying. The device called CARES being produced by AmSafe out of Phoenix is a great new product for parents like myself with young children. Designed for kids who weigh between 22 and 44 pounds, its only approved use will be for air travel. The old days of lugging that big car seat can now be replaced by carrying a 1 pound strap that fits in your pocket. Wow!
It works by using a belt and shoulder harness that goes around the back of the seat and then attaches to the existing lap belt provided. AmSafe Aviation is also the manufacturer of existing seat belts on airplanes for passengers as well as crew. Not surprising, the approval process by the FAA took 4 years. The harnesses cost $74.95 each and are available online at www.kidsflysafe.com. We will attempt to make the devices available in our airport when they start marketing them at retail outlets.
Obviously the safest place for a child is not on your lap but in a seat. This device will make it that much easier for parents. Safe flying to all!
