Passport Requirement Delay!

Posted on 06/12/2007

Take a deep breath;  you're good to go to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, or the Caribbean without a passport until the end of September.  The U.S. State Department agreed to relax the new rules because of the backlog of pending applications.  But, there's a catch--you must have a State Department receipt showing that you have already applied.  In order to get one, go to www.travel.state.gov and click on the "Checking the Status of Your Application" link.  Once you enter your personal information, you can print the page with your application information, and that's the proof you need to show at the security checkpoint;  of course, with another valid form of identification.

Additional information can be found in a June 12 article in the Canton Repository, or look on their website at www.cantonrep.com.   Hope this relieves some anxiety!

Happy Trails!
