Northwest Airlines best bet for Shanghai authority
The race to China is on. Every legacy carrier in the United States wants to fly there. Why? Because China is nearly exploding economically and corporate America wants a piece of the action. Business in China isn’t for wimps though and in most cases, face-to-face business dealings are essential for smart business investments and partnerships. It’s probably a pretty cool place to visit too. I’d like to go there some day!
Well anyway, the US Department of Transportation is going to allow one US carrier to offer daily service to Shanghai, China next year. International route authority is tricky business but will have a big payoff for which ever carrier wins the battle. American, United, Continental and Northwest are all vying for the coveted service.
We are solidly in the Northwest Airlines camp. Of the four carriers listed, Northwest Airlines would be the only carrier to offer convenient one-stop service to Shanghai from CAK. Plus, the World Gateway in Detroit is magnificent and a lot less congested than say Newark, Washington Dulles or Dallas/ Ft. Worth (the other gateways where flights could originate). Northwest offers excellent regional jet service from our airport to Detroit, so corporate passengers would enjoy a jet-to-jet connection to Shanghai with only one easy stop in Detroit.
If you agree, please visit this website and sign Northwest’s online petition. They promise not to send you propaganda, if you add your name to the list. I’ve got my fingers double crossed that Northwest wins route authority to Shanghai in 2007. Go big red!!

I have a question, where did you get this photo of a Northwest CRJ? It is really a great shot and I'd love a full size of it.
Whoever took it should really consider uploading it at www.airliners.net
