October is a month of looking back and looking ahead. Looking back, I feel very pleased with our progress this year. We added nonstop flights to Washington Reagan National Airport aboard US Airways, made great headway on our runway extension, added two new fire trucks, added thousands of Facebook fans and eagarly look forward to resuming flights to Ft. Myers and Ft. Lauderdale in November.

Summers are always busy at Akron-Canton Airport and as we move into autumn full bore, I'd like to report on several important milestones that we recently have reached. First, we completed the earth moving work on our primary runway 5/23 extension project. After four years of hauling fill from one site to another, we sure are glad that this part of the job is finished. Now, we begin paving, lighting and enhancing the runway itself.

Every three years, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) mandates that we practice our response to an aircraft emergency at the airport. Back in 1983 at our first drill, there were only three participating agencies- the airport, the city of Green (Green Township at the time), and the Summit county sheriff's department. Today it has grown to over 50 agencies from four counties and more than 400 total participants. Our most recent drill took place just a few weeks ago.
