Akron-Canton Airport to break passenger record

GREEN, Ohio -- The Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) announced it expects to break its all-time annual passenger record Wednesday.
The airport is set to break last year's record of 1.560 million passengers by reaching an expected 1.564 million today.
During 2011, CAK broke monthly passenger records for 9 out of eleven months so far -- including a record November travel season. More than 143,000 passengers flew out of CAK in November.

Akron-Canton Airport upgrades security in time for holiday travel

The Akron-Canton Airport says it plans to open its new, significantly larger security area with two new millimeter-wave scanners on Wednesday morning.
The new security screening space is more than double the space of the current security checkpoint area, according to the airport’s president and CEO, Richard McQueen. The airport now has three security screening lanes. When the new space opens, the airport will have four lanes, with room for six.

Akron-Canton Airport gets nearly $9 million for projects

The Akron-Canton Airport on Tuesday was awarded nearly $9 million dollars in federal funding for projects, including expansion of the security checkpoint and a new aircraft rescue and firefighting building.
In a news release, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) said the award was made by the Federal Aviation Administration.
“Ohio businesses and visitors depend on safe and efficient operations at Akron-Canton Regional Airport,” Brown said. “This funding will ensure that the airport can provide first rate safety services in Northeast Ohio.”
