According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), in March alone, about 62 million travelers are expected to be screened at airports across the country.

The traffic volume is expected to hit a ten-year high, which means even more company at the airport and in the sky! That’s why Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) is offering up best practices to help Customers jump into vacation mode the moment they arrive.

Arrive 90 minutes before departure time
Travelers are strongly urged to arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes before their scheduled departure time. Early and relaxed is a good look on any traveler.

Choose parking arrangements ahead of time
CAK offers five different parking options for travelers. Selecting the most suitable parking option before arriving at the airport helps not only with navigation but also budgeting.

Travelers can choose from premium options including covered short-term ($18/day) and standard short-term ($15/day) or three other lots including long-term A ($11/day), long-term B ($9/day) or economy ($7/day). Each of the three economical lots include a 7thday for free and complimentary shuttle service.

Use mobile boarding and kiosks
No checked bags? Customers can use mobile boarding on their phone or print out boarding passes at remote kiosks. Both of which will allow them to skip the check-in line at the airline ticket counter and head straight to security.

Use TSA PreCheck memberships
TSA PreCheck allows travelers to move through the security screening process quickly without removing liquids or laptops from bags and leaving shoes and light jackets on. Members should remember to add their Known Traveler Number when booking a ticket so the stamp is displayed on the boarding pass.

Purchase luggage while booking travel
Need that extra luggage? Airlines generally offer the lowest rate at the time of booking. Purchasing bags ahead of time either online or through a travel agent will save time during the check-in process.

Measure and weigh luggage before arriving at the airport
It’s important to check luggage dimension and weight restrictions for specific airlines before leaving home. American, Delta, Southwest and United allow checked bags to weigh 50 lbs or less, while Spirit allows checked bags to weigh 40 lbs or less. Airlines will charge fees at the ticket counter if bags are over their allotted weight. No need for a fancy luggage scale, customers can just jump on their home scale with their luggage to gauge the weight.

Use @askTSA or tsa.gov while packing
The TSA provides timely answers through their Twitter handle @askTSA and offers an inclusive guide on their website (tsa.gov) that educates travelers on what’s carry-on acceptable. Oranges, baby formula over 3.4 oz and a garden gnome – yes, yes and yes. Hand cream over 3.4 oz – no.
