Green, OH: Oh say can you see…Washington D.C.? Oh yes you can! Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) launched new nonstop service to Ronald Reagan National (DCA) from Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) on November 2nd! The daily nonstop flight is aboard Southwest’s comfy Boeing 737-700 jet. To celebrate this new flight into the heart of our democracy, CAK held a patriotic themed press conference and gate party this morning.
“Southwest Airlines is making it easier and more affordable for our Customers to fly in and out of our nation’s capital,” said President and CEO Rick McQueen. “Washington D.C. Reagan National is the closest, most convenient airport for business and community leaders. When added to Southwest’s current lineup of important business destinations from CAK – New York, Boston, and Atlanta – Washington D.C. is another incredible city offered for a low fare. Thank you Southwest!”
“I’m pleased that Southwest Airlines has launched its non-stop service at Akron-Canton Airport to provide Northeast Ohioans with additional travel options,” said Representative Jim Renacci. “Not only will it be more convenient for travelers in and around Ohio’s 16th District, it will also have a positive effect on our local economy.”
A small brass ensemble from The Canton Symphony provided a patriotic pops concert as Customers enjoyed red, white, and blue bagels and coffee at the gate party this morning. In addition to the new DCA service, Southwest Airlines also began seasonal Ft. Myers, another CAK Customer favorite, on November 2nd.  Sunday also marked the start of all-Southwest Airlines service at CAK as the airline moves toward full conversion of its wholly owned subsidiary by the end of 2014.  You can book your next trip online only at southwest.com or by calling 800-I-FLY-SWA.
