Akron-Canton Airport has busiest August of all time; up 8 percent for the year
Posted on 09/14/2010
Green, OH: Was it your first? Your first trip from Akron-Canton Airport (CAK)? Well, we know more and more travelers from throughout the region are starting their journey from CAK because more than 147,100 passengers traveled to and from CAK in August, making it the airport's busiest August of all time. That figure was up eight percent compared to 2009 and beat the airport's previous best August by 1,300 passengers which was in 2008. This is the airport's fifth monthly record in 2010. For the first eight months of the year, 1,050,812 passengers traveled to and from CAK, an eight percent increase compared to 2009.
"We loved welcoming so many new passengers to our airport in August," said Rick McQueen, president and CEO. "It is a thrill to see travelers, many of whom don't know exactly what to expect when they walk through our doors for the first time, immediately relax. We work hard to make a great first impression, and the efforts of our dedicated team members are paying off. "
Nearly every carrier at CAK experienced an increase. AirTran Airways, up 9 percent, carried 63,279 total passengers for the month. Plus, new flights to Milwaukee that AirTran Airways offers in partnership with SkyWest Airlines added another 4,800 passengers. US Airways, which added an additional trip to Charlotte, was up 24 percent. Frontier Airlines, which began flying a 162-seater Airbus 320 to and from CAK this summer, gained a 14 percent increase. Finally, United Express was up 1 percent.
