Green, OH: Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) is two for two. Just one month after our best month ever, the airport's August figures make it the second best month in our history. Not only is August our second best month ever, the 146,000 passengers traveling to/from CAK account for our best August on the books. Compared to the same month last year, the airport hosted 19,783 more passengers in August 2008; a 15.7 percent increase. Year-to-date more than 983,000 travelers have used the airport compared to 928,552 last year, a 6 percent increase.
"We are delighted that more and more passengers continue to choose CAK for their travels," said Kristie Van Auken, director of marketing & communications. "To have another record-breaking month shows that Northeast Ohio travelers are finding Akron-Canton Airport a more relaxing alternative to big airports. Plus folks like our low fares."
Nearly every carrier at CAK posted an increase in passengers compared to last year. More than 67,000 passengers flew AirTran Airways during the month, a 15% increase and another record-breaker for the carrier. US Airways (43%), Northwest (23%), Frontier (28%) and United Express (9.5%) also contributed significantly to the strong boarding figures.
