AIRTRAN AIRWAYS BRINGS FT. MYERS NONSTOP BACK TO AKRON-CANTON AIRPORT
Green, OH-- It is back! AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: AAI), today announced the airline will resume its popular seasonal flying from Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) to Southwest Florida International Airport in Ft. Myers this winter. The daily flights, which will be served by the airline's popular Boeing 717 aircraft, will begin December 21, 2006.
"AirTran Airways wants to make this year's fall and winter travel season a bright one for our customers in Northeast Ohio seeking sun-soaked getaways for both business and pleasure, and we are glad to respond to customer demand with the return of our daily nonstop flight to Ft. Myers," said John P. Kirby, director of strategic planning and scheduling.
"Ft. Myers is one of Northeastern Ohio's favorite winter destinations," remarked Akron-Canton Airport Director Fred Krum. "Now our passengers can enjoy nonstop service to three of Florida's hottest cities– Orlando, Tampa, and Ft. Myers – at a price they can afford. Thanks, AirTran, for making CAK a better way to go."
AirTran Airways' carries more passengers than any other airline from CAK. In addition to the newly announced Ft. Myers service, the airline flies nonstop to Atlanta, New York (LaGuardia), Boston, and offers connecting flights to 23 additional cities. Because AirTran Airways has significantly reduced air fares in this market, CAK was ranked as the sixth least expensive airport in the country, in the US Department of Transportation's fourth quarter Domestic Airline Fares Consumer Report.

The airport opened its new, spacious, four-gate passenger concourse in early May from which AirTran Airways operates its big jet flights. The concourse is the centerpiece of the airport's $60 million, five-year STAR expansion project. Other elements of STAR included longer runways, a new baggage claim wing, additional car parking and a food court with national brands.
