AKRON-CANTON AIRPORT PASSENGER TRAFFIC UP 9 PERCENT IN MAY
Green, OH: Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) is on a roll. For five consecutive months, total passenger traffic has increased when compared to the same month in 2005. In May, more than 125,400 total origin & destination (O/D) passengers used the airport compared to 115,000 in the same month last year, resulting in a net monthly gain of 10,500 (or a nine percent increase). Year- to- date traffic has increased 9.4 percent compared to last year.
"We are humbled by the customer response to our low fares, great airlines and new gates," said airport director Fred Krum. "We like reducing the stress normally associated with the popular summer travel season by offering shorter lines, smaller crowds, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a free waiting lot. Clearly Northeast Ohioans find Akron-Canton a better way to go."
AirTran Airways, Delta Connection and Frontier Airlines all posted a passenger increase in May compared to last year. AirTran Airways nonstops from CAK include Atlanta, New York (LaGuardia), Boston, Orlando, Tampa, and seasonal service to Ft. Myers. Frontier Airlines flies to its westbound Denver hub aboard big, comfy Airbus jets with satellite TV in every seatback. Delta Connection offers nonstop flights to their hubs in Cincinnati and Atlanta and a daily trip to Orlando.
The airport opened its new, spacious, four-gate passenger concourse in early May. AirTran Airways operates its big jet flights from three gates and Frontier Airlines will operate from the fourth later this summer. The concourse is the centerpiece of the airport's $60 million, five-year STAR expansion project. Other elements of STAR included longer runways, a new baggage claim wing, additional car parking and a food court with national brands. Additional information including flight reservations, driving instructions, and a relaxation station is available at www.akroncantonairport.com, CAK's new web portal.Akron-Canton Airport, a better way to goŽ.
