AKRON-CANTON AIRPORT REPORTS RECORD MONTHLY
PASSENGERS' AGAIN
Green, OH: In the month of May, more passengers than ever before passed through the
terminal and hopped on to any one of five commercial carriers offering flights from the airport. A total 97,247 passengers used the airport in May exceeding the 95,324 who used the airport in March 2003, our previous best month on record. The May total accounts for a 22.08 percent increase over 2002 when a total 79,656 passengers used Akron-Canton (CAK). For the first five months of the year, more than 426,000 fliers have passed through the terminal, a 25.6 percent increase over 2002. At this pace, the one-millionth passenger will arrive at CAK in late November.
AirTran Airways, Delta Connection, United Express and Northwest Airlink each
experienced increased boardings compared to May last year. .It is truly exceptional to break a
passenger record in May,. said airport director Fred Krum. .Typically, our best months come in the third quarter. Based on summer bookings, we are optimistic that we will be issuing a similar release again soon. Passengers simply find Akron-Canton Airport a better way to go..
Also, AirTran Airways and Delta Connection recently added new flights offering
passengers even more options for passengers choosing CAK. AirTran Airways began a fifth
Atlanta flight on June 14 and is adding a third New York LaGuardia flight on July 2. Delta
Connection added a seventh flight to its Cincinnati hub in May and is adding a fifth to Atlanta on July 15.
AirTran Airways, Delta Connection carriers, Northwest Airlink, United Express, and US
Airways Express serve the growing Akron-Canton market. The airport is currently in the midst of a $50 million, five-year expansion project including longer runways, an expanded terminal (including a new second-level loading concourse and a food court with national brands) and a new interchange south of the airport at Shuffel Road.
