AirTran Airways Goes Daily to Tampa from Akron-Canton Airport

AIRTRAN AIRWAYS GOES DAILY TO TAMPA FROM AKRON-CANTON AIRPORT






Green, OH: Beginning February 11, 2004, AirTran Airways will offer daily nonstop service to Tampa (TPA) from Akron-Canton Airport (CAK). The carrier began once-weekly service to Tampa last Saturday, November 8, 2003, selling nearly every seat on the inaugural flight. AirTran also offers nonstop daily flights to Atlanta, New York and Orlando from CAK.



 



"We are responding to overwhelming demand for our Saturday only nonstop Tampa flights," said John Kirby, AirTran Airways director of network planning.  "We are pleased to bring this enhanced service to our valued, and loyal Northeast Ohio customers."



 



"We are delighted to see AirTran Airways grow at Akron-Canton Airport. Tampa is both a thriving business and leisure center. The new daily nonstop service will be hugely popular with Northeast Ohio travelers who need to have a face-to-face meeting or who.d like to escape winter weather for awhile,." added Fred Krum, airport director.

As with all AirTran Airways flights from CAK, the carrier will fly 117 seat, Boeing 717 jets to TPA. The 717 is one of the quietest jets in the sky and features both business and coach class seating. The Boyd Group of Evergreen, Colorado recently ranked Akron-Canton as the third fastest growing airport in the country (2000-2008). To accommodate the additional passengers, CAK is currently in phase three of the $60 million, five-year STAR expansion project including longer runways, an expanded terminal (including a new secondlevel loading concourse and a food court with national brands) and a new interchange south of the airport at Shuffel Road.
