Leadership Akron Tackles New Media
Posted on 03/14/2007
I'm at the Student Union Building at the University of Akron right now with the Leadership Akron class XXIII. It's media day and I had the privelege to serve on the program committee.
My friends from www.ohio.com, www.brewedfreshdaily, and www.coolcleveland.com just shared their views on the changing media landscape. Buzz words were flying like "user generated content", "podcasts", "RSS feeds", and of course "blogs". The class was very engaged...though many may still be a bit confused.
Chip Bok, the editorial cartoonist for the Akron Beacon Journal, drew presidents starting with Tricky Dick through "W." He's a gas.
The class is now rehearsing for a mock press conference. Their performance will be critiqued by the crisis maven Barb Paynter and by professional-in-residence at KSU, Jan Leech.
It's been a great day and I'm glad to say that the airport was often referred to as a progressive organization because we blog and because we partner with online communities.
Congratulations, Leadership Akron, for tackling the tough issues that challenge our leadership and inspire new thinking!

Happy New Years to my neighbors out at Akron/Canton. Continue the tremendous work you do at your airport. Most airports are jealous of how well you have grown in just a 10 year span, and will continue growing in the future. I have flown it 10+ times in the last couple years, and will continue using it.
Right now my coalition of Airport Supporters are trying to help out the struggling Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport. They have done a successful job with flights to Orlando aboard Allegiant Air (ALGT-Nasdaq), but they have not done much since then.
YNG needs to look at how well CAK has done over the years and perhaps take some tips from you guys. You run a very successful operation and should be commended for IT! You earn my award for the best airport in Ohio and the best operation of any government funded operation in the region.
GOOD LUCK IN 2007!
