Hall of Fame Memories
It seems like the HOF week just zooms by for most of us in the area, but for those who experienced the different events, I’m sure that you have some great memories.
The airport, of course, is the port of entry for many of the players and families for the week and we do everything in our power to make their experience pleasant. I had the pleasure of accompanying John Madden last Thursday while he waited for his charter to arrive which carried his family and friends to CAK. As many of you may know, as a general practice, Mr. Madden does not fly; so he drove to Canton for the events. His people/staff/guests flew on a Jet Blue charter from Oakland (so if you happened to see the airplane, no we don’t have that carrier here yet, but you never know what the future will bring).
My impression of Mr. Madden, as well as many of the other players that I had contact with, was very positive. They all were friendly and excited to be part of this wonderful weekend. The one characteristic that best sums them up was actually relayed to me by one of the escorts for past enshrines, who has spent many festival weekends providing transport services for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival. Jim Craig was waiting for his past player at the airport and we had a chance to talk. His comment, which I think sums up the enshrines as a whole was “they all possess anintangible quality which makes them a success." I couldn’t agree more. I think that is also what makes the event so special for our out of town guests, I believe that our area embraces them and welcomes them to Canton, Ohio.
For all those who make the weekend such a wonderful event, take a bow, you deserve it!
