Coping with Summer Air Travel
Posted on 08/02/2006
I just read an article called "a web site devoted to smart summer fliers", in the New York Times. Many of you may think I’m thick, but I had never visited www.flightstats.com until I read this story. This site is chock full of flight information including TSA wait times, aircraft delays at airports across the country, airline information and just about anything else you’d like to know about the state of things the day you are traveling. The best part though, is that it is free to use and puts the tools you need at your finger tips if something goes wrong during your flight.
Now I’m not being pessimistic here. It is a widely held fact that summer travel can be brutal. Summer storms, jam-packed airplanes, and big crowded airports can make your head hurt just thinking about it. Imagine how your travel plans could be derailed if you are actually stuck in the chaos. Betty at the Beacon Journal or Kim at CAK could tell you their tales of summer flight misery (fortunately their CAK experience was reported as positive, whew!), that included an extra overnight stay in a connecting city. Both travelers were caught in this mess at O Hare International Airport in Chicago, which isn’t that much of a coincidence. If you’ve ever flown to, from, through ORD, you know what I’m talking about.
Well any-hoo, I think flightstats.com is a great tool to help keep you informed of stormy weather conditions that may impact your flight this summer. Check out this tool and let me know what you think about adding it to our site.

Happy New Years to my neighbors out at Akron/Canton. Continue the tremendous work you do at your airport. Most airports are jealous of how well you have grown in just a 10 year span, and will continue growing in the future. I have flown it 10+ times in the last couple years, and will continue using it.
Right now my coalition of Airport Supporters are trying to help out the struggling Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport. They have done a successful job with flights to Orlando aboard Allegiant Air (ALGT-Nasdaq), but they have not done much since then.
YNG needs to look at how well CAK has done over the years and perhaps take some tips from you guys. You run a very successful operation and should be commended for IT! You earn my award for the best airport in Ohio and the best operation of any government funded operation in the region.
GOOD LUCK IN 2007!
