Come to Oberlin

One of my goals for airport marketing this year is to increase the percentage of online media as part of our overall media plan. So we’ll be doing some SEM (search engine marketing), SEO (search engine optimization) and forming strategic relationships with local providers of digital content. One such partnership, which I am totally jazzed about, is with Cool Cleveland. Thomas Mulready, the creator of this savvy arts-centric news-zine, made the pilgrimage to CAK last week (with the very lovely TL Champion) to better explain what their publication is all about.
Now I am not an easy convert, mind you. I take the fiduciary responsibility of my job very seriously (we are a public organization you know) and I like to make really informed decisions about how to place our limited media dollars. I must say that Thomas’s approach to regional marketing, promoting things that are fun to do in our region… that don’t make the 6 o’clock news… is really… well… cool. There are more than 33,000 subscribers to www.coolcleveland.com so apparently, I’m not the only one that thinks so.
To launch our new collaboration, the airport and AirTran Airways are sponsoring this really cool world premiere David Lynch gig in Oberlin next Thursday, February 8 (read more about it here). The show opens the next week in New York City, so we are going to send a couple of lucky winners to see it (air courtesy of AirTran Airways, show tickets courtesy of Cool Cleveland, hotel will be provided too)! Of course, you have to come to Oberlin for your chance to win.
There will be more digital initiatives and cool CAK offerings soon. Stay tuned… and hope to see you in Oberlin.

Happy New Years to my neighbors out at Akron/Canton. Continue the tremendous work you do at your airport. Most airports are jealous of how well you have grown in just a 10 year span, and will continue growing in the future. I have flown it 10+ times in the last couple years, and will continue using it.
Right now my coalition of Airport Supporters are trying to help out the struggling Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport. They have done a successful job with flights to Orlando aboard Allegiant Air (ALGT-Nasdaq), but they have not done much since then.
YNG needs to look at how well CAK has done over the years and perhaps take some tips from you guys. You run a very successful operation and should be commended for IT! You earn my award for the best airport in Ohio and the best operation of any government funded operation in the region.
GOOD LUCK IN 2007!
