CAK Celebrates Arrival of Rescue 10 & 11

Posted on 09/01/2009

We had another celebration at CAK today (press release). Now, you may think we are crazy, but when cool things happen…or in this case, cool trucks come, it is cause for celebration.

Todd Laps (our fire chief and security guru) like a proud papa, took delivery of Rescue 10 and 11 just within the last month. These babies are only delivered once every sixteen years or so, so that is why this is such a big deal.

The new Rosenbauer Panther 6x6 trucks offer exceptional fire fighting technology. They each have infrared cameras, can pump 1,850 gallons of agent and are much faster than our old trucks. But the trucks don’t fight fires, our people do.

We have 32 cross-trained employees who will drop everything, if necessary, to respond to an emergency. They are suited up and at the midpoint of the airfield in less than three minutes. Plus, the City of Green backs up our guys, with additional fire power and highly skilled firemen/women.

It is a good system. Our team approach is a great use of resources and talent. So, even though we hope we never need them, we are so grateful to have two new members of the CAK family- Rescue 10 and 11- lovingly cared for by a dedicated bunch of airport employees.

Ok- So I read this story around the time it was first posted. On the first Saturday of October, I was driving up to the NE Ohio area, on I-77 north in W. VA before Charleston. I glanced over at the southbound lanes to see one of your new green fire trucks going the opposite direction on the back of an 18-wheeler. I was able to read 'Akron-Canton Airport' on the side, but can't remember whether it was #10 or #11. Where was it going??
