@CAKairport a big hit in Orlando

Posted on 04/30/2010 by Kristie VanAuken

I had the pleasure of speaking on a panel with Benet Wilson, Biz Aviation editor at Aviation Week (and oh so much more) and Morgan Johnson, social media guru at jetBlue Airlines at the ACI-NA Technology Conference in Orlando this past Wednesday.

Now, I've been on what seem like a gazillion social media panels since we started blogging, tweeting, FBing, Flickring and YouTubing but this ranks as one of my all time favorites....

More flights and bigger planes @ CAK

Posted on 04/06/2010 by Kristie VanAuken

2010 is shaping up to be a pretty darn good year. As we move into the second quarter, passenger traffic at CAK is up nearly 6 percent compared to last year. That's pretty exciting; since 2009 wasn't too shabby either (it was our second busiest year in history).

Why is CAK growing? Well, our airline partners-AirTran Airways, Delta Airlines, US Airways Express and Frontier Airlines- are adding new flights this spring and summer.

Here is the run...

CAK- Grants and Fans

Posted on 03/17/2010 by Kristie VanAuken

This has been an incredible week at CAK. We achieved two incredible milestones and it's only Wednesday! Let's start with the money. FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt made a special trip to CAK to present our Trustees and team with more than $16.6 million. Let's see, if I write it out the number is…$16,625,000. That's the largest one time grant we've ever received. Randy (he and I are on a first name basis now) was incredibly gracious, greeting everyone at the celebration and truly...

US Airways Flights to DC Rock!

Posted on 02/25/2010 by Kristie VanAuken

Yesterday was a day to remember! Bob Konstand, Rick McQueen and I spent the day in Washington D.C. visiting elected officials who serve our airport extremely well. Along with  dozens of quailty bonding moments, we had a delightful breakfast meeting with our DC counsel, visited four congressmen, one congresswoman, and one senator. We didn't have an agenda per se, instead we wanted to share the CAK success story with them and to thank them for their many efforts on our behalf.

We were thrilled that...

CAK has dang good year despite the bad economy

Posted on 02/04/2010 by Kristie VanAuken

We are blessed and determined at CAK. Despite the global economic meltdown, CAK held its own in 2009. Believe it or not, we had our second busiest year ever in 2009 welcoming nearly 1.45 million total customers.

On the air service front, we added two new destinations during the year-Washington D.C. Reagan National Airport (US) and Ft. Lauderdale (FL). We lost a frequency or two also, but that is pretty typical even in an exceptional year.

On the airfield side,...
