More CAK-pacity means new record in May

Posted on 06/23/2010 by Kristie VanAuken

135,100. That is a dang good number. Why? That's how many passengers came and went through CAK this May.We trounced our 2006 record by nearly 10,000!

Now, I don't want to spend too much time bragging because the credit for our growth goes to our customers and to our airline partners.

A number of our customers are experiencing CAK for the first-time. We love to hear from them because many times they have discarded their regular travel habits to...

Continental and United, a match made in heaven?

Posted on 05/19/2010 by Kristie VanAuken

It was hardly a surprise when Glen Tilton and Jeff Smisek announced that the two airlines were engaged to be wed; to become one; to live United. A variety of industry conditions have made this marriage (or other pairings) fairly easy to predict. For one, major airlines CEOs like Glen Tilton and Doug Parker have been espousing the virtues of consolidation since 2001. In the global airline market, their thinking is "bigger is better."

For those of us who remember the...

@CAKairport a big hit in Orlando

Posted on 04/30/2010 by Kristie VanAuken

I had the pleasure of speaking on a panel with Benet Wilson, Biz Aviation editor at Aviation Week (and oh so much more) and Morgan Johnson, social media guru at jetBlue Airlines at the ACI-NA Technology Conference in Orlando this past Wednesday.

Now, I've been on what seem like a gazillion social media panels since we started blogging, tweeting, FBing, Flickring and YouTubing but this ranks as one of my all time favorites....

More flights and bigger planes @ CAK

Posted on 04/06/2010 by Kristie VanAuken

2010 is shaping up to be a pretty darn good year. As we move into the second quarter, passenger traffic at CAK is up nearly 6 percent compared to last year. That's pretty exciting; since 2009 wasn't too shabby either (it was our second busiest year in history).

Why is CAK growing? Well, our airline partners-AirTran Airways, Delta Airlines, US Airways Express and Frontier Airlines- are adding new flights this spring and summer.

Here is the run...

CAK- Grants and Fans

Posted on 03/17/2010 by Kristie VanAuken

This has been an incredible week at CAK. We achieved two incredible milestones and it's only Wednesday! Let's start with the money. FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt made a special trip to CAK to present our Trustees and team with more than $16.6 million. Let's see, if I write it out the number is…$16,625,000. That's the largest one time grant we've ever received. Randy (he and I are on a first name basis now) was incredibly gracious, greeting everyone at the celebration and truly...
