Thanksgiving Travel Tips and my CAKberry Sauce Recipe

Posted on 11/21/2011 by Kristie VanAuken

Gobble, gobble, gobble! Thanksgiving is truly my favorite time of year. I have so much for which to be grateful! Topping my list are family, healthy kids and faithful husband, incredible friends who support me, dynamic work, and the opportunity (really it’s a privilege) to give back to this incredible community.

All of us at Akron-Canton Airport are grateful to our Customers who continue to express their love for our low fares and a fantastic airport experience.  So, back at’cha! Here are a...

The "Decision" - Were we right or wrong to pull the plug on a CAK FB post?

Posted on 11/02/2011 by Kristie VanAuken

We unwittingly unleashed a firestorm last week.

So, here’s how the whole thing came down. We get word from LeBron James’ advance team that he has a personal flight from Akron-Canton Airport. Because he is a celebrity and a superstar, we wanted to welcome him. Akron is his hometown after all.  So, CAK is his hometown airport.  We feature all sorts of celebs on our Facebook wall because our fans find them interesting (and so do we!).

LeBron arrived in a black...

Fresh, Integrated, Inviting…Welcome to our new website

With our new website though, in our ever persistent quest to affirm our brand and engage with Customers, our goal was more holistic than benefits and commerce. It is about seamless integration of our brand voice.

A couple of...

Just another social media conference? I don't think so.

Posted on 09/09/2011 by Kristie VanAuken

Social media is so red hot, right? Well, “red hot” may be a bit of an overstatement. SoMe was hot last year. Things change quickly in the communications biz particularly at airports. While many airports were formulating their social media procedures and policies, big brands busted into the space with their top notch campaigns and big budgets.  Most of us eventually got into the game too, often dragging law departments and suspicious CEOs who were certain that there just...

Using Social Media during a Crisis

Posted on 08/10/2011 by Kristie VanAuken

A couple of weeks ago, we had a dubious “first.” Our electrical utility vault flooded. Nearly five inches of rain poured down the night before overwhelming our multiple and redundant systems to prevent such an occurrence. Dang!
The crazy thing about crisis communications is that each scenario is completely different. We had no power (computers, chargers, internet connections- gone, poof!) and we had a potentially life threatening clean-up.
But we also had each other and a practiced system to react to...
