Someone pinch me. I look out my window from my 4th floor office every day and see three Southwest Airlines Canyon Blue Boeing 737s taking-off and landing at CAK and it still doesn’t feel real.
It all started this past weekend when Southwest commenced nonstop service to Chicago Midway and Denver, two strategic cities in their network. It is the beginning of the integration of AirTran into the broader Southwest network here at CAK. We love being on the bleeding...

Yippee, we’ve done it again!! Akron-Canton Airport has ranked as a top 15 “most affordable airport” for the third consecutive year. CheapFlights.com prepares this quick ticket study every June and produces the ranking. I like this analysis because it ranks real searches on a real booking site vs. aggregated data found in the US DOT quarterly airline airfare rankings (where we also do very well). This year we came in at number eleven compared to fourteen in 2011, with an average fare of...

What makes an airport an important or even vital part of the community? There are lots of ways to measure an airport’s impact- jobs, access to domestic and international networks, nonstop flights, international access, intermodal connectivity and in our case, lots of low fares.

So things are off to a dang good start at CAK in 2012. The best news comes from Southwest Airlines who recently announced that CAK is on their network for good. This is so huge on so many levels that my excitement is nearly indescribable. The integration will take some time, but we’ve waited for nearly 25 years, so what’s another 12-18 months in the grand scheme of things? What’s really exciting is that not only are Southwest/ AirTran staying but they are...

Southwest is coming to CAK!! I still can hardly believe it. Why, might you ask? Well, let me give you a little of the back story.
When I took this job at CAK back in 1996, we commissioned the first air service development study. Generally, we knew the routes and potential for building our passenger service, but we needed a road map for ourselves and our community. We hired the Boyd Group to do the research...
