Addendum to LA blog post

Posted on 08/08/2008 by Kristie VanAuken

We are thrilled that the Akron and Canton Convention and Visitors Bureaus helped us promote the region and attract business travelers at the NBTA Convention. They are a fantastic addition to our team of cheerleaders, that's for sure! Mary Vlahos from Canton, actually donned a referee shirt and managed our Akron-Canton Football Challenge contest. Thanks, Mary!

Of course, there are tons of great reasons to come to the Central/ Southern parts of Cleveland+-- Akron and Canton-- including reasonable room rates, beautiful parks, world class attractions (like the Pro...

CAK promotes Cleveland+ in LA

Posted on 08/08/2008 by Kristie VanAuken

I was in LA last week during the earthquake. Yup, I was in my hotel room on the 8th floor when the building began to rumble. Fortunately, the Omni is designed perfectly to withstand a 5.8 quake and you would have never known 5 minutes after it happened, that an earthquake had hit the place at all.

What was I doing in LA? Well, Elizabeth and I were attending the NBTA National Conference and Exhibition. That's where all of the nation's largest corporations send...

CAK Airfares still lowest in the State

Posted on 07/24/2008 by Kristie VanAuken

Its official: our airfares are cheap. The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) rolled out first quarter 2008 fares for the top 100 airports in the United States. Yup, Akron-Canton Airport made the list and once again, our airfares are the lowest in the State of Ohio. They have crept up a bit, but that isn't all bad news. It's important for airlines to make more money than they spend or else no one will be flying anywhere.

We are lucky though, that...

Recombobulation

Posted on 07/11/2008 by Kristie VanAuken

My friend Pat Rowe at Mitchell Airport in Milwaukee has done it again! I recently read a story about their "recombobulation" area at MKE. Hee hee. What a stroke of genius. If you couldn't guess, a recombobualtion area is where you put yourself back together after everything you want to take on a plane is x-rayed, poked, sorted, and returned to you in a big grey bin.

Pat and team actually named the space where you can put your belt and shoes back on,...

If only we could pedal airplanes

Posted on 07/07/2008 by Kristie VanAuken

My friend Ron DeBarr, Executive Director of NEOTEC, sent me a list of innovative ideas to solve the current fuel crisis. Pedal power was just one solution. Recycling French fry fat was another, but alas, it won't power an airplane either.

There is not doubt that new thinking is needed to address the crazy price of fuel. I personally have been driving slower (a good thing, I know) and riding my bike to cardio-tennis on Saturday mornings. This whole fuel thing has me...
