Yes it’s out! Consumers Report recent survey, as reported by NBC News Travel, has released the findings of their surveys as to what you, the customer feels, is the best airline, and the winner is Virgin Airlines! But, CAK fans don’t feel blue -- you have the second best airline flying right out of CAK – SOUTHWEST. Well, they tied with Jet Blue but we’ll take the second as a hometown winner!! What separates the best from the mediocre, it might be the fact that neither Jet Blue nor Southwest charges for bags, but many of our customers go...

Codeshare- What's that?

Simply, codeshare allows two or more airlines to combine itineraries. AirTran and Southwest just announced that they now offer codeshare from CAK starting on April 14, 2013. That will allow our Customers access to 97 destinations- their combined network of domestic and international cities. Codeshare is also stepping stone to the full integration of AirTran and Southwest (scheduled for the end of 2014).

We are very jazzed about this because our AirTran Customers will get a taste of the exceptional Southwest experience. Their boarding process is different than other airlines. It is very efficient and really makes sense, once...

Is this really Akron-Canton Airport, CAK?

How to reflect on 2012. Let me see. Incredible. Unprecedented. Impossible.
Well, that’s what we used to think anyway. I was hired to lead the CAK marketing effort in 1996. Let me be the first to admit that I didn’t know a thing about airport marketing. There weren’t many folks doing it back then. There was Barbie Peak in Huntsville and the irascible Carolyn Fennel managing PR in Orlando. Some of our earliest marketing activities were gratefully taken from their playbooks. In 1996 we welcomed 423,000 total customers.

My boss, Rick McQueen started in 1983. Bad timing really. With the...

Holiday Travel Tips to get you through CAK fast

Greetings from all of us at CAK! As we enter the holiday season and the rush to try to accomplish many things in the next five weeks, please keep this in mind when traveling: reduce stress by arriving at the airport on time.

It’s amazing how much better you’ll feel if you plan on not cutting your arrival time at the airport short. This time of year planes are usually 100% full which means if you miss your flight due to lack of planning it could be days till you get to your final destination, yes days. There...

Postscript: Frontier Airlines

Once upon a time, at a little airport in Ohio, a very cool airline with spokesanimals and LiveTV, set up shop. Griz, Foxy, Jack and the entire wild bunch landed at CAK in 2006. They brought low fares and the promise to open up the west to our community.

Frontier was an important partner for us. Until their arrival, our westbound options were slim. Some connections were available over various hubs but nothing that would really go west.

Up until that point, we had a very successful partnership with AirTran but their focus was on Florida...

Southwest Lands at Akron-Canton Airport (CAK)

Someone pinch me. I look out my window from my 4th floor office every day and see three Southwest Airlines Canyon Blue Boeing 737s taking-off and landing at CAK and it still doesn’t feel real.

It all started this past weekend when Southwest commenced nonstop service to Chicago Midway and Denver, two strategic cities in their network. It is the beginning of the integration of AirTran into the broader Southwest network here at CAK. We love being on the bleeding edge of this alignment.

One of the best outcomes of Southwest’s service is that we now...

CAK Ranks 11th in the CheapFlights.com Affordability Index

Yippee, we’ve done it again!! Akron-Canton Airport has ranked as a top 15 “most affordable airport” for the third consecutive year. CheapFlights.com prepares this quick ticket study every June and produces the ranking. I like this analysis because it ranks real searches on a real booking site vs. aggregated data found in the US DOT quarterly airline airfare rankings (where we also do very well). This year we came in at number eleven compared to fourteen in 2011, with an average fare of $349. The value of flying CAK shines through in this study.

Low fares matter. They matter...

CAK on Pinterest? What would an airport pin?

From the creators of Facebook.com/akroncantonairport and Twitter/CAKairport, comes Pinterest.com/cakairport. Surprised to see your airport on Pinterest? Yeah. Me too. You see – I didn’t think CAK had a place on Pinterest. I’ve used Pinterest personally and love it. My pins of recipes and clothes came fast and furious soon after I joined. I immediately thought - should CAK be here too? We have a huge Facebook presence, a long-standing Twitter, Google + page, Flickr, YouTube, not to mention this blog – so was there really room in the life of CAK for one more social network? If CAK were a...

Keep track of your bag weight

As we enter the dog days of summer when families are packing their bags to head to the airport, please keep in mind that a heavy bag can become a very expensive mistake. It can start your vacation with lots of money coming out of your pocket. Just like bag fees, the majority of airlines charge you for bags weighing over 50 pounds, and the charges can definitely be a budget buster. Fees from $50 to $150 on bags over 50 pounds are common. And if the bag is over 70 pounds, they escalate even more.

We offer free...

Several weeks ago, I took a long weekend and visited my brother during his birthday. He graduated from college about a year ago and is living in the big city, so this was my first time visiting him in his new home. Thanks to AirTran, I was able to get a great deal on airfare from CAK to his city since they were running a summer sale. We had a great weekend seeing all the sights, checking out the nightlife, and literally eating our way through the city.

On Sunday, it was finally time to come back home...
