Southwest Lands at Akron-Canton Airport (CAK)
Posted on 08/20/2012 by Kristie VanAuken
Someone pinch me. I look out my window from my 4th floor office every day and see three Southwest Airlines Canyon Blue Boeing 737s taking-off and landing at CAK and it still doesn’t feel real.
It all started this past weekend when Southwest commenced nonstop service to Chicago Midway and Denver, two strategic cities in their network. It is the beginning of the integration of AirTran into the broader Southwest network here at CAK. We love being on the bleeding edge of this alignment.
One of the best outcomes of Southwest’s service is that we now have nonstop LOW FARE service to Chicago Midway! In the past it could cost up to $900 to fly nonstop on other airlines to Chicago from CAK. Those days are over. Thank you, Southwest!!
Check out pictures from our Super Fan tarmac Party, VIP Breakfast with Southwest EVP, Bob Jordan (he is also president of AirTran), and our press conference here- all events to celebrate the arrival of Southwest. Suffice it to say that we had an amazing time with our Customers and our new family at Southwest Airlines, particularly those that joined us for the festivities.
AirTran still offers a powerful network and awesome nonstop destinations from CAK (Atlanta, New York LGA, Boston, Orlando, Tampa, and Ft. Myers) all at affordable fares. We built that together over fifteen years. The arrival of Southwest though, allows us to carefully extend their brand in the region and build a loyal following for them; although they can easily attract a cult like following because of their great fares and customer care. We are here to give that a boost.
So, here’s to taking CAK to the next level. With Southwest Airlines now at CAK, we are rising together.
