A Better Way To Go Akron Canton Airport

Security and Small Airports

As the 94th largest airport in the nation,I really can't say CAK is all that small any more, but we are not big by any means. To me, our size gives us a huge advantage in the realm of security.

I was recently briefed on intelligence found at Osama Bin Laden's compound in Pakistan. The information showed that the threat to civil aviation continues. 9/11 changed our world forever. The amount of money our national government, state government, and local government spends on security is hard to fathom. Since 9/11 our security costs have increased 10 fold.

As I stated earlier, I believe our size gives us a big advantage in security and here's why. I look at CAK as a nice little town, a place you could raise a family, with our own Street department, Police department, Fire department, City Council and about 1,100 residence all contained in about 6 square miles. Like most small towns, there are very few secrets, plus we know everybody, that's our advantage. We see everything; we hear about everything, we care about everyone. We all come together as a community to help one another, that doesn't happen at big airports.
