Akron-Canton Airport Backs Northwest to Shanghai

The DOT is going to award a new route authority from the mainland US to Shanghai. Four airlines are contending for the route. American wants to fly from Dallas, United wants to fly from Washington Dulles,Continental wants to fly from Newark and Northwest wants to fly from Detroit. We are backing Northwest to Detroit.

First of all for the Akron-Canton Airport Passenger, Northwest is the only airline that serves a city in the race. Since Continental and American do not serve CAK, awarding the service to either of these airlines would not be of any benefit. With respect to United, while they serve Chicago from CAK they do not serve Washington.

If we look to the bigger geographic area of Northeast Ohio we still think the passengers will be better served with the Northwest Detroit service. First of all it is much easier to connect in Detroit than in Newark. The Detroit Airport has nowhere neat the Air Traffic delays as does Newark.Plus if there is a problem in the hub airport wouldn’t you rather get home from Detroit as opposed to being stuck in Newark! Nobody wants to connect in Newark if they don’t have to!the Northwest Terminals in Detroit are far superior to any of the other Airports in the running and you can get to Shanghai by starting out at the convenient Akron-Canton Airport or Cleveland Hopkins. Northwest is the best to Shanghai through Detroit!

No offense or anything but I would much prefer doing a long flight like this to Shangai on a Northwest A 330 than on a triple 7. With all due respect to Boeing, I think the Airbus A-330 series is alot more comfortable for long trips like this. The 2-4-2 configuration is to me unbeatable compared to a 3-3-3 or even 2-5-2 configuration. And you gotta love those winglets :-)

I tend to disagree, of the four airlines, the most financially stable is Continental. For the region, as Continental uses CLE as a major hub, I think it is better for them to grab the service.
