Master Plan
Welcome. The Master Plan Update for the Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) is underway. As the process unfolds, you will find updates here, so bookmark this page and check-in often.
The customer experience at CAK is central to our decision-making. We are constantly looking for ways to improve services while meeting the growing demand for traveler facilities. An airport Master Plan is a formal, comprehensive study of an airport that documents the short-, medium-, and long-term development plans needed to satisfy growing aviation demand. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recommends regular updates of an airport's Master Plan to ensure that development and investment in public facilities are carried out in a logical and financially and socially responsible manner. The current Master Plan for the Akron-Canton Airport was completed in 1998. Since then, interim development programs accommodated growing Customer demand. With the changing airline industry, fluctuating economy and advancements in technology – a fresh look and update of the Master Plan is needed to ensure that the Airport can meet the needs of the traveling public and regional business communities well into the future.
The Master Plan Update is being led by R. W. Armstrong; which specializes in aviation development and airport planning. The study began in December 2011 and is anticipated to be completed in mid-2013. A local technical advisory committee of community and business volunteers is providing ongoing input into the process. Two public open houses will also be held during the study and we encourage you to attend and share your thoughts and concerns about YOUR airport's future.
