6 is our lucky number
Another FAQ I always get is, “Are we going to get any new Air Carriers soon?” In fact I just got asked that question Wednesday afternoon walking through the terminal. Usually that question is followed by another inquiry, “Are we going to get Southwest?” The answer I give is, “No we are not getting new Airlines and with all respect to Southwest Airlines, we have something better.” With all due difference to my friends at Southwest they are a great airline and most communities would love to have them, so let me explain what I mean by better.
First of all we’ve got 6 great airlines with great destinations and between the 6 carriers we have the ability to go all the places we need on our wish list for the foreseeable future (I use the term foreseeable future to mean 5 years; after that, we make no guarantees or assurances).
We’ve got a great combination of low fare carriers and network carriers that can get you to Boston on a great deal or take you all the way to Beijing if need be. When these 6 carriers, AirTran, Frontier, Delta, US Airways, Northwest, and United, get you anywhere you need to go, why would we want or need another airline? Any other new airline would pretty much just duplicate what we are already doing and hope to do in the future. Six viable, healthy, and growing carriers is our goal at CAK. We are fortunate to have these 6 and really do not see the need for a 7th.

I would still like to see Southwest at CAK. They would give Airtran some pricing pressure and lower both companies’ prices. During any given sale I can check prices from Airtran at CAK and Southwest at CLE (Cleveland) and their prices are OK but if I check PIT (Pittsburg) the prices are much better since PIT has both Airtran and Southwest.

Hey, you say that 6 is our lucky number, but if Delta and US Airways merge, we'd be stuck with only 5! Do I see any AirCanada Jazz in the future? Akron Canton International Aiport!

You are right, we really don't need anymore airlines for our airport. It would only make the airport even more crowded! I like the short lines the way they are. We could go international, though, we could offer new nonstop flights to Toronto, or Niagra Falls in Canada. Think of it, Akron Canton International Airport! Any of our 6 airlines could do it! By the way, i flew out of CAK on June 10, 2006, and I noticed a Boeing 747 on the other side of the airport...what was that all about?

I was a first time visitor to CAK this past Thursday and I must say, I was very impressed with the airport! Keep it up!
With respect to new airlines, I was wondering if CAK was going to go after some charter carriers during the high peak travel season. I don't know (maybe someone could enlighten me) if CAK has any international capabilities. With KSU and YSU and other colleges within grasp, I would think maybe seasonal Carribean charters, etc. I agree not to go after Southwest with the great choices of low fare carriers already there. I would like to see maybe a couple of flights by UA to IAD and maybe have AirTran expand some flights to either DFW or MDW. I'm kind of disappointed at Northwest's schedule, but they are kind of lacking anywhere I like.
That's all I can think of for now. Keep up the good work there in CAK!

So you are not going after new carriers such as Festival Airlines, SkyBus Airlines, or CQ Air?
Better yet, are you even approaching any carriers?
